After hiking to the Koko Arch several times and trying out various shooting angles, it is time to make the sunrise shot. The weather report is for rain, but I decide to drive out anyway. The western sky glows orange from the lights of the city on low clouds. As Kini, Sally and I hike in the dark to the arch, the trail seems much steeper and more difficult. The eastern sky is just beginning to lighten. I don't know if the sunrise point will even be visible through the arch. I have to crawl on all fours up the side of the arch, the scree makes footing very difficult. Luckily Kini gave me a headlamp, and from my previous hikes I have the camera gear in my backpack. Finally I am at the arch, and I need to climb over the another ridge to get the light through the arch. I make several attempts as I cannot yet tell where I need to be. It's getting lighter now and I setup my tripod only to realize that my mount is on my other camera, back at the Lagoon. Ouch. I see that some other people are coming up to the arch, so I will have company. That will most likely affect the shot. Some nice colors are beginning to show. There are fewer clouds than I thought. Time to get to work.
